Lisa Toenniges is the owner and chief executive officer of Innovative Learning Group, a company she founded in March 2004. A dynamic and respected leader, Lisa has more than 20 years of experience in the performance improvement industry and has consulted with many Fortune 1000 companies about their learning and performance strategies and solutions.
ILG was born out of Lisa’s passion for building a business, providing for her employees, and doing what is right for clients. Her entrepreneurial spirit, positive outlook, and hands-on leadership style have been the drivers behind ILG’s rapid growth and tremendous success.
As a result of her efforts, Lisa was named one of the 2010 Top 10 Michigan Business Women and Rainmaker of the Year by the National Association of Women Business Owners of Greater Detroit. She also was declared an Entrepreneur of Distinction by Corp! magazine in 2009. Additionally, ILG was designated a 2011 Cool Place to Work by Crain’s Detroit Business and received Corp! magazine’s 2010 Michigan Economic Bright Spots Award and 2009 Best of Michigan Business Award.
Lisa is serving as president-elect of the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) and will assume the role of president in April 2013. Previously, she served a two-year term as a board member and treasurer of the organization. Lisa also is a past president of the ISPI Michigan Chapter and past chair of ISPI’s 2010 annual conference. Additionally, she is member of the Greater Detroit and Ann Arbor chapters of the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD). Lisa is a frequent speaker and panelist at performance improvement, instructional design, and entrepreneur and small-business conferences; graduate programs; and other business-related events.
Lisa is committed to the local community. She is a member of Inforum, the Detroit Regional Chamber, and Automation Alley and has dedicated a significant amount of her time to mentor college students and other professionals who are looking for a career in the training industry.
A nationally recognized expert in project management for learning initiatives, Lisa is the author of How to Manage a Large-Scale Learning Initiative: Tools and Templates Based on 20 Years of Award-Winning Programs, published by the Brandon Hall Group. She also is the co-author of Managing Training Projects, an “Infoline” report for ASTD.
Lisa has a master’s degree in instructional technology from Wayne State University in Detroit and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Michigan State University. She also is a Certified Performance Technologist endorsed by ISPI.
