Time: 2:15 – 4:15 p.m. (CT)

Location: Intercontinental Hotel, New Orleans

International Society for Performance Improvement

Using a software training case study, Innovative Learning Group Lead Instructional Designer and Learning Consultant Susan Fisher will show how conventional e-learning content can be repurposed to meet Gottfredson & Mosher’s five moments of learning need with the technology you already have.

Together, we’ll transform an existing e‑learning course into a blended solution that provides performance support, explanation, learning reinforcement, and detailed reference all within the confines of the original authoring tool. In doing so, we’ll look at redesigning the course architecture, interface, and content to optimize usability for each purpose. We’ll also examine issues around compliance requirements, making the solution accessible, and keeping content updated.

At the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Explain why a typical e-learning course does not effectively support performance.
  • Apply Gottfredson & Mosher's The Five Moments of Need™ model to different learning scenarios.
  • Map content from a conventional e-learning course to levels in Gottfredson & Mosher’s Performance Support Pyramid©.
  • Recognize best practices for editing and formatting content to serve performance support, explanation, reinforcement, and reference purposes.
  • Describe ways to use your authoring and delivery technologies to make the content usable and accessible at each moment of learning need.
