Devon Merz

The work Innovative Learning Group does — creating custom learning and performance support solutions — lies at the intersection of Devon Merz’s three passions: technology, learning, and delivering top-of-the-line results.

As ILG’s development lead for augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), Devon is able to indulge in all three.

“I enjoy the problem solving that’s inherent in all coding projects, the ability to think deeply and creatively about potential solutions, and the process of developing a living, breathing body of work,” says Devon. “And in the case of AR and VR, the ability to design interactive training exercises and environments that people can experience for themselves is very rewarding.”

Devon brings to ILG his vast experience in designing and implementing strategic digital solutions across a wide range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, education, energy, healthcare, telecommunications, and utilities. He has worked in both corporate strategy at the Boston Consulting Group and software research as a lead software engineer in the Englebretson computer-vision lab at Rice University.

Devon is an XR Terra Certified Developer and an active member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

He graduated from Rice University in Houston, Texas, with honors, receiving a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering, a minor in business, and a distinction in research.
