A multi-billion-dollar global healthcare company needed an effective way to help its pharmaceutical field team retain and apply critical launch knowledge. The organization sought a reinforcement approach that would build confidence, strengthen collaboration, and improve long-term recall.
The Company partnered with Innovative Learning Group (ILG) to design and deliver a gamified reinforcement experience that transformed key launch content into engaging, team-based practice — helping learners strengthen readiness for real-world conversations.
Situation
The Company’s field team participated in several days of intensive product launch training designed to prepare them for a successful market introduction. Although participants left the classroom feeling confident, training leadership recognized a familiar risk: confidence at the end of a launch workshop does not always translate into long-term retention of complex medical information.
The team needed an approach that would reinforce critical launch content, promote collaboration, and reveal which topics required additional review without adding more lecture time or relying on forgettable end-of-course quizzes.
Solution
ILG designed a high-energy, gamified learning experience — Game On! — focused on reinforcing content rather than introducing it. The experience replaced traditional knowledge checks with fast-paced, collaborative challenges that provided immediate feedback, encouraged friendly competition, and made it safe to learn through trial and error.
Program Design
On game day, participants worked in teams of five to eight and rotated through nine timed game stations every 10 minutes, with short transitions between activities. In a two-hour session, learners applied launch knowledge across key topics such as symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and the patient journey.
Each station was intentionally designed to reinforce content through varied, interactive methods — including role plays that mirrored real field conversations, storytelling activities that built empathy, and hands-on challenges requiring teams to explain concepts accurately and quickly.
Games ranged from explaining immune responses and reflecting on company values to solving an oversized magnetic crossword and participating in virtual reality experiences, with additional elements such as prop-based storytelling and voice-assisted Q&A using pre-programmed Alexa devices. Across all stations, the focus stayed on performance: teams practiced articulating key messages, clarifying misconceptions in real time, and strengthening confidence ahead of field execution.
To keep the experience consistent and measurable, each station included a facilitator who managed timing and scored teams on accuracy, creativity, teamwork, and their ability to demonstrate understanding of the disease state and product concepts.
At the end of the rotation, teams submitted gameboards for final scoring and recognition.
Results
The Game On! experience increased participation and engagement while strengthening recall through repeated, applied practice. The collaborative format helped the field team build shared language, reinforce critical messages, and leave the launch meeting more prepared to discuss the therapy confidently.
Beyond the friendly competition, the scoring and facilitation approach helped identify where teams excelled and which topics needed follow-up — giving training leaders actionable insight, not just completion data.
