Preventing Performance Pitfalls: Six Questions for Leading Change Successfully

Oct

2026
MI ATD Regional Conference
8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (ET)

Leading and managing change in an organization requires more than setting direction — it depends on consistently achieving the right level of performance from your people. Understanding what drives employee performance and how to diagnose and address gaps is essential for any leader guiding teams through change.

In this session, Project Manager and Instructional Designer Christina Calderwood will explore the key factors that influence performance and how they are impacted during periods of organizational change. She will introduce six essential questions — grounded in proven performance improvement models (think Gilbert’s model/Binder Six Boxes) — that help leaders put the right interventions in place to successfully drive change. Participants will learn how to make informed decisions that support both individual and organizational success.

By asking these questions, leaders can address performance challenges before they take hold — turning potential setbacks into opportunities and setting the stage for sustained, successful change.

At the end of the session, you’ll able to:

  • Identify the key factors that influence employee performance and how they impact organizational change
  • Use six essential questions to diagnose gaps and determine the right interventions for supporting change
  • Make informed decisions that proactively address performance challenges and drive successful organizational outcomes
